Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 12, 2026
VOOWA ("VOOWA", "we", "us") is a marriage platform: a mobile app and website (voowa.love) that helps people serious about marriage find a life partner. Because of what VOOWA is for, you share personal and sometimes deeply sensitive information with us. This policy explains what we collect, why, how we protect it, and the choices you have.
1. Information we collect
Account information
- Email address and password (passwords are stored hashed, never in plain text)
- Name, date of birth, and gender
- Phone number, if you choose to provide it
Profile information (including sensitive data)
To match you on what matters for marriage, your profile can include information that privacy laws treat as sensitive personal data. You choose what to share, and you share it so it can be shown to other members and used for matching:
- Religious beliefs and religious practice
- Cultural and ethnic background
- Family values, life goals, and your intended timeline for marriage
- Marital history and whether you have or want children
- Relationship preferences and what you're looking for in a spouse
- Profile photos
Verification data (photos and ID)
VOOWA's Verified badge is earned through photo and identity verification. When you verify, we collect:
- Verification selfies/photos, used to confirm your profile photos are really you.
- Government-issued ID, used solely to confirm your identity and age. Your ID document is never shown to other members and is never used for marketing. Verification documents are stored privately and securely, are accessible only to you and to VOOWA for review, and are deleted when your account is deleted or when you ask us to delete them.
Usage and device information
- How you use the app (profiles viewed, likes, matches, messages sent)
- Device type, operating system, app version, language, and crash logs
- Approximate location (e.g., city), used for showing you nearby matches
Waitlist signups (this website)
If you join the waitlist on voowa.love, we collect your email address and use it to tell you when VOOWA launches and to send occasional pre-launch updates. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your signup at any time.
2. How we use your information
- To create and operate your account and show your profile to other members
- To suggest compatible matches and power search and discovery
- To verify identities and display trust badges (Verified, Marriage-minded)
- To deliver messages between members
- To process subscriptions (handled by Google Play; we never see your full payment details)
- To keep the community safe: investigating reports, preventing fraud, and enforcing our rules
- To send service emails (e.g., password resets) and, with your consent, product updates
- To fix bugs, and to understand and improve how the app is used
3. AI compatibility matching
VOOWA's AI matchmaking (available on the Marriage plan) analyzes compatibility between members. To do this, we send profile attributes (such as stated values, faith and practice level, family goals, lifestyle answers, and marriage timeline) to Anthropic's Claude API, our AI service provider, which returns compatibility assessments.
- We never send your name, email address, phone number, photos, or ID documents to the AI service, only the profile attributes needed for compatibility scoring.
- Anthropic processes this data as our service provider and, under its commercial API terms, does not use it to train its models.
- AI scores are suggestions to help you discover aligned matches. You always decide who to connect with.
4. When we share information
We never sell your personal data. We share it only:
- With other members: your profile (photos, first name, and the profile details you chose to add) is visible to other members as part of how the service works. Your email, phone number, exact location, and ID are never shown.
- With service providers that help us run VOOWA, each bound to use data only on our instructions: Supabase (database, authentication, and storage hosting), Resend (transactional email), Anthropic (AI compatibility matching, as described above), and Google Play (billing).
- For safety and legal reasons: to comply with law, respond to valid legal requests, enforce our terms, or protect the rights and safety of our members.
- In a business transfer: if VOOWA is involved in a merger or acquisition, data may transfer under the same protections; we'd notify you of any material change.
5. Data retention and deletion
Deleting your account and data
You can request deletion of your VOOWA account and the personal data associated with it at any time. The exact steps, along with what gets deleted and what is retained, are described on our account deletion page.
- Your data is kept while your account is active.
- You can delete your account in the app at any time; you can also email us to request deletion. When you delete your account, your profile is removed and your personal data is deleted, except where we must keep limited records for legal, safety, or fraud-prevention reasons.
- Verification documents are deleted when your account is deleted or when you ask us to delete them.
- Waitlist emails are deleted on request and after launch marketing winds down.
6. Security
We protect your data with encryption in transit, hashed passwords, restricted access to sensitive records (verification data most of all), and infrastructure hosted by providers with strong security practices. No system is 100% secure, but protecting the trust you put in a marriage platform is our first job. If we ever learn of a breach affecting your data, we will notify you as required by law.
7. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data (most profile data you can edit in the app)
- Delete your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent (e.g., sensitive profile fields)
To exercise any of these, email privacy@voowa.love. We'll respond within 30 days.
8. Age requirement
VOOWA is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account, and age is checked during ID verification. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18; if we learn we have, we delete it.
9. International transfers
VOOWA is operated from the United States and our service providers may process data in the US and other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for those transfers.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as VOOWA evolves. We'll post changes here and update the effective date; for material changes we'll notify you in the app or by email.
